The Broadmeadow locomotive turntables and roundhouse sit as an important example of Newcastle??????s rich industrial heritage. Newcastle Museum and Newcastle Library seek an opportunity to create new arms of both services to occupy the site and re-introduce contemporary Newcastle to some of its most important built heritage. This project aims to meld past, present, and future through a project aimed to showcase Newcastle??????s industrial, social, cultural, and ecological heritage. Multi-use spaces will blend together the programmes of a museum and library within the heritage architecture of the roundhouses, creating a ??????town square?????? like public space featuring additional services such as hospitality venues, specialised commercial spaces, public parkland, permaculture gardens, walkways, and transport services, all set within a regenerated native wetland ecology.
