Broadmeadow 1 - Turntables looks at the adaptive reuse of a heritage listed locomotive depot situated in the heart of Broadmeadow, Newcastle. The depot has a significant industrial history and played an integral role in the maintenance and manufacturing of steam/diesel locomotives, alongside supporting the movement of coal/goods across New South Wales for many years. It's future has become dependent on planning outcomes of the 'Broadmeadow Place Strategy' introduced by the NSW State Government and City of Newcastle Council (April 2023 - Mid 2024). This plan projects Broadmeadow as a suburb to be of significant growth within the next 20 years and aims to provide a vision for the urban renewal of government owned industrial/park land, infrastructure, transport, and future housing development within the area. This project aims to conserve the industrial heritage of the Broadmeadow Locomotive Depot through adaptive reuse of the remaining roundhouse and surrounding structures on site to propose a vision for its future and strongly encourage its implementation within the Broadmeadow Place Strategy.
