Broadmeadow 1: Turntables

2023

This project aims at developing a communal space for the Novocastrians to experience Newcastle's rich industrial heritage and celebrate the Awabakal Land on which it has been built. Our vision inspired by the Aboriginal Dream draws a parallel projection of physical, cerebral, and sacred world on site representing the three ecosystems interconnected through storytelling. We propose to reclaim back the glory of the once busy industrial site by integrating built with landscape around a central gathering space that incorporates a new wing of the Newcastle Museum, Library and a wing of the University for the STEAM courses. Physical world is associated with sensory garden reflexology path, sacred world with the native bushland for phytoremediation and cerebral world with permaculture space for learning with carriage libraries, cafes and exhibits for users to experience the rail heritage on site.
