In Australia, our sprawling suburbs are almost exclusively designed for the nuclear family., yet lone and two person households are on the rise. There is an under supply of diverse dwelling types to suit smaller households, placing people in housing stress. By providing medium density infill housing strategies, we can offer a greater diversity in housing types and avoid the further destrucPon of our environment. The Incision and InserPon strategies addresses these challenge by harnessing the collecPve power of communiPes. The Incision method involves the reconfiguraPon and renovaPon of exisPng dwellings to accommodate mulPple households. Whilst the inserPon method involves the addiPon of dwellings in the underuPlised spaces in our backyards. Both strategies aim to maximize housing capacity within exisPng suburbs.
