This project is an investigation into the current forestry system in Australia and the potential for private native forestry as a way to boostmaterial security heading into the future. It explores the conflict we have as architects in needing to substitute carbon heavy materials suchas concrete with carbon negative materials such as timber, the worldwide timber shortage, and the need to stop native logging. It is a transformation of the decommissioned Pender & Foster Sawmill in Pitnacree, near Maitland, into a place to grow and sell seedlings, educate landowners on how to plant, care and maintain trees as future investments. It also acts as a felling advisory, sawmill and workshop.
