No Man is an Island

2023

Peat Island. A dark and forgotten place nestled in the Hawkesbury. Aboriginal land, A mental asylum. Local communities drowned out by private developers. The island has been a source of life, a prison and a home. Stories have been told here for generations. How can Architecture revive these long lost stories? What will become of the future of this island, and other sites like it?A series of 5 interventions within the site promote an alternative form of development - A human- scale approach to the tight-knit river community. The Ferry, The Causeway, the Mudflats, the Rotunda and the Water Tower. A procession through the island. Each intervention sits at the mercy of the river, fluctuating with time, the ever-evolving landscape and human passage.
